We Have Transitioned

"What have I done?" From the little window of the jetliner that carried us from the comforts of our all-American home in Kansas, I gazed at our new life, which lay before us in hues of gray. It was Moscow, Russia in the Autumn of 1994. The question skittered through my mind like a hamster on a wheel, refusing to be stilled. We were 26 years old and in our passion to live, we had chosen adventure over the security of a job and a home. Russia was birthing a democracy and we found a place within the incubator.

Now 13 years later, I find myself at a kitchen table gazing at the beautiful Balkan mountains before me in a place that we have called home for 9 years. We brought a baby girl to this place from the frozen tundra of Russia and then filled our home with three more girls. They know no other life than this. They do not know what it means to live the American life that Jay and I know so well. We can only imagine what it means to grow up American in another land. Together, the six of us are on a journey to discover what it means to be a family on mission.

This is really random...it's Betsy. I wanted to let you know that I love reading your blog Teanna. You have such a beautiful spirit and family. I wanted to tell you that we had an interview with the Mennonite Agency, we applied with, today and it went really well. There are a couple of assignments in the Ukraine that interest us (well me more than Dave right now...) but anyway, what are your feelings about the Ukraine? Kind of a random big question, I know! It doesn't look that far from you on the map!!

Love,
Betsy (Scott)

I look at your pictures on the blog and think, how do you handle your children getting old. I can't believe how big your girls are, and that Jenna is now 5! Not too long from now, I'll be looking at pictures of Ella wondering, when did my little girl get so big. That's probably the point when I'll start talking to Brad about having more babies :)
